A PAIR of North Devon midwives have joined a mission to improve care in countries with high maternal and infant mortality rates.
Sue Pile and Clare Murphy, who both work on Labour Ward at North Devon District Hospital, are taking part in the Global Midwifery Twinning Project.
The project aims to improve the standards and status of midwifery education and practice in Uganda, Cambodia and Nepal. Sue has recently returned from four weeks in Uganda while Clare is heading to Cambodia in January.
"My time in Uganda will never be forgotten," said Sue, who also works as a community midwife out of Caen Medical Centre in Braunton.
Clare added: "I am looking forward to the experience, which I expect to be challenging both professionally and personally."
