Homeowners in North Devon have been urged to be on their guard today with more than an inch of rain expected to fall on parts of the region in the space of three hours.
The Met Office has issued a ‘Yellow Warning’ for all parts of North Devon today, with downpours of heavy, thundery rain expected to last throughout the day.
Up to 40mm (1.5in) of rain could fall on some areas, although a Met Office spokesman said it was unclear where the worst of the rain would hit and how fast the storm would track across the region.
He said: "We are talking about 25-40mm of rain possibly falling in some areas in a matter of hours. Most places will receive a lot less than that and the heaviest downpours will be localised."
The warning was issued from 9am this morning until midnight tonight.
The Met Office said conditions would improve as the weekend approached.
