North Devon earns prizes

TASTE of the West product winners for 2014 have been announced with a number of North Devon producers winning awards.

James from winners Boom Kitchen said: "We are over the moon with our awards. We only started trading last July so we're still in our first year's trading and were in two minds whether to enter or not but thought it would be a good opportunity to get some honest feedback from experts in the industry."

North Devon winners included:

Confectionery – Roly's Fudge Pantry: Real Ale Fudge (silver) and Apple and Mango Fudge (silver).

Cheese – Barton Farm Dairy: Kentisbury Dawn (mild soft white cheese made with raw milk) (silver) and Barton Blue (mild soft blue made with raw milk) (bronze).

Meat – Higher Hacknell Organic Meat: Organic South Devon Beef Steak (gold) and Organic Lleyn Lamb Steak (silver); Philip Dennis Foodservice Ltd: Devon and Cornwall Rib Eye Steak (gold), Devon and Cornwall Fillet Steak (gold) and Devon and Cornwall Sirloin Steak (silver); Heal Farm Meats Ltd: Real Farm Sliced Hot Smoked Duck Breast (gold).

Sausages – Philip Dennis Foodservice Ltd: Breakfast Pork Sausages (4.54 kg) (gold), Pork and Cracked Black Pepper Sausage (4.54 kg) (gold) and Pork Honey Roast Sausage (4.54 kg) (gold).

The hospitality and retail awards are still being judged, although the Custom House and Northcote Manor have both won gold in the restaurants category.
