RESIDENTS in North Devon are being advised to call 111 for all non-emergency medical needs following the completion of a month long switchover today.
Taking place at 8:30am, the change has seen all GP out of hours numbers in the area replaced by the 111 service.
The service replaced NHS Direct at the start of September following numerous delays, and provides free medical advice in non-emergency cases.
Specially trained handlers will also direct people to relevant local services – or will arrange an ambulance if required.
A gradual switchover to the NHS 111 service will take place between October and April for the rest of Devon.
