Park United thrashed Barnstaple FC 7-1 last night to close the gap on Braunton at the top of the North Devon League Senior Division.
Player-manager Steve Skinner hit four goals, Martin Edwards got two and Kevin Buck completed the scoring as Park ran riot against one of their main rivals.
They have six games left and are due to meet Braunton on Wednesday with both teams still in contention for the title.
A hectic run of fixtures seemed to catch up with third-placed Barnstaple who beat Braunton to win the Combe Martin Cup on Saturday and won against Landkey Town in the league on Tuesday.
A goal from Tom Nash could not prevent their heaviest defeat since joining the league three years ago.
Hartland were in excellent form in Intermediate One, winning 3-0 at home to Braunton and getting their title challenge back on track.
After defeat to rivals Woolacombe at the weekend, they responded with goals from Dan Slee, Richard Davey and Danny Gifford in a convincing win.
Hartland have moved up to fifth with games in hand on the teams above them and are due to meet Woolacombe for a potential title decider in the last game on May 20.
Two wins from their last two games would see Chivenor crowned champions of Intermediate Two on their first season in the league.
Timmy Pike, Tommy Herd, Chris Gaffney and Richard Charles scored in a 4-3 win over Woolsery last night and Chivenor can wrap up the title by beating Lynton and Hartland.
