BIDEFORD reserves went three points clear at the top of the North Devon League premier division with a 2-1 win over Chittlehampton at the Sports Ground last night.
Two headed goals from Will Nicholls in the first half gave the Robins their 15th victory of the season.
James Campbell pulled a goal back for the visitors before half time, beating Peter Ellis with a lofted effort.
And Ellis, the home goalkeeper, kept his team ahead by saving a penalty from Ciaron Lishman early in the second half.
Bideford had chances to increase their advantage with Nathan Bate hitting the bar and Nicholls seeing an effort cleared of the line.
The win sets them up for key fixtures against fellow contenders North Molton, on Saturday, and Torridgeside on March 9.
Sam Stephens, the Bideford player-manager, said: "If we beat the teams around us, then we win the league.
"If we win on Saturday it's going to be a massive boost before our match against Torridgeside."
