A NEW shop in Ilfracombe High Street is plugging the gap in the market for the hire and sale of mobility scooters.

Combe Mobility has been opened by Sheila Clegg and Brian Flanagan to provide daily, week or weekend scooter hire for residents and visitors.

"Being involved with people with mobility needs, I noticed that Ilfracombe did not have an outlet catering for them, so we decided to open one ourselves," said Sheila.

"As well as hiring and selling mobility scooters, we can also arrange servicing.

"We've got scooters that fit into car boots and coaches for journeys and big scooters for people who want to go sightseeing and climb up hills."

Combe Mobility operates a members scheme offering full or seasonal membership for individuals and corporate membership for hotels and leisure businesses needing scooters and other products for their customers.

It also stocks a range of other mobility aids, and Sheila invites customers to browse and order from the large selection of products available through the catalogues she holds.

"We've had a lot of help from AMS Mobility in Nailsea, Somerset.

"They helped us with what to stock and sell.

"They have been in business for 13 years and it was through speaking to them that we decided to do it ourselves in Ilfracombe."

The shop has received a good response from the community and Sheila and Brian sold a scooter on the first morning it opened.
