Nick Harvey MP has officially opened Heddon’s Gatel Hotel, near Martinhoe. New owners Mark and Pat Cowell have recently completed a £270,000 refurbishment in time for the start of the season.

Nick Harvey said the hotel was one of a number creating a cluster of high quality accommodation in the area and he wished Mark and Pat every success for the future.

Simon Pollard, business manager at Barclays, who is working with the hotel, said: “Our customer’s commitment to investing in Heddon’s Gate Hotel is testimony to the confidence they have in both the industry and in North Devon’s ability to continue to attract holidaymakers and visitors. Mark and Patricia are proven accommodation providers with an excellent track record and we are proud to support them with their latest venture.”

The lunchtime reception was attended by some of the local suppliers who worked on the hotel’s refurbishment. These included Pearce Barnstaple, Town and Country Preservations, RGB, Exmoor Heating, King’s Carpets, James Electrics and Hi Tec.
