A 49-year-old woman who went missing for more than six hours last night was found by the police helicopter partially submerged in a pond near Chawleigh.
The alarm was raised at around 5.30pm after a member of the public found a car mounted on a grass verge with its engine running but no sign of the driver at Benley Cross.
The Devon and Cornwall Police helicopter was scrambled as well as local officers and members of the Exmoor Search and Rescue Team.
Crews searched the Chawleigh and Witheridge area for around six hours before locating the woman in the Week Bridge area.
Police said she was partially submerged in water in a pond and was suffering from suspected hypothermia. She had been there for several hours.
Officers and a member of the public entered the pond and dragged the lady from it.
Members of the Exmoor Search and Rescue team treated her at the scene while the force helicopter landed nearby.
The woman was flown to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital for treatment, although police said it is likely she will be transferred to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth later today.
