A man who ignored a police officer’s order to go home after taking a swing at a bouncer in Barnstaple has been fined £195.
Richard Hopkins, 34, of Swainswick Gardens in Bath, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a police officer at North Devon Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Hopkins got into an argument with the doorman outside Fever nightclub on February 23, a court heard.
Karen Ball, for the prosecution, said the officer saw the defendant throw a punch at the bouncer, adding: “He was very drunk.
“The officer told him he had to go directly home.”
She said Hopkins walked past a row of taxis and went behind a building, adding: “He seemed to be ignoring the dispersal order and was arrested.”
Mr Hopkins, who is self-employed, said he was sorry and admitted he had drunk “too much alcohol”.
He was fined £195.
