A MAN brandishing a sword was threatened with a Taser by police in Ilfracombe last night.
Police were called to the scene at around 11.45pm after becoming concerned for a man in a flat in Fore Street.
There was an internal alarm sounding which was thought to be a fire alarm.
However, on arrival, officers were threatened by a man brandishing a sword.
Police drew their Tasers and gave verbal warnings to the man to diffuse the situation without having to activate the Taser.
A police spokesman said: “The male responded to the warnings and discarded the sword and was then arrested. The incident was resolved peacefully and no persons were injured.
“A 45 year old male from Ilfracombe is in custody at Barnstaple Police Station awaiting interview today.”
