A 42-year-old had to be woken by police after falling asleep drunk on a Bideford park bench.
Laurence Davey, of Cedar Lodge Hotel in Okehampton, had been in Victoria Park at around 11.50am when police were called following reports from the ambulance service that he was drunk.
Officers were unable to wake him when they arrived at the park and resorted to shouting to rouse him.
They asked what alcohol he had consumed to which he began swearing, saying: “I said I don’t want any alcohol.”
Davey, who was unrepresented in court, then became aggressive and continued shouting abuse.
Several members of the public, including young children, were present in the park at the time.
Davey pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place and was fined £70 along with a victim surcharge of £20.
