A TEAM of six friends will be kayaking from Lee Bay to Lundy Island over August bank holiday to raise money for charity.
The Lundy Kayak Challenge Team will be crossing the 22 miles of open water to Lundy Island in single berth kayaks to raise money for Cancer Research UK and the Chemotherapy Unit Appeal at North Devon District Hospital.
The team, consisting of Nick Bell, Lucy Goaman, Robin Allin, Paul Meaker, Tim Lockwood and Kerris Lockwood, are being trained by Rob McIntyre who runs the company Sea Kayaking South West, and who will be undertaking the crossing with them.
Lucy said: "Over time I have felt that I am part of a team that is doing something really special.
"When I visit our fundraising page and see the money we are raising, putting ourselves through a little bit of discomfort seems to diminish in importance.
"The support we have received has been fantastic.
"Hopefully we'll inspire other people to do similar challenges for charity, after all if I can do it then anyone can."
Dawn Harrison, Cancer Research's fundraising manager for Devon, said: "We can't thank them enough for all their support and want to wish them all the very best as they start their attempt."
