THE grandson of a West End ballroom dancer is hunting for a lost photo album containing pictures of his grandfather.
Londoner Andrew Wyatt’s grandfather Fred was a renowned dancer in London between 1890 and 1930 but Andrew has very few pictures of him and believes more may well be in Barnstaple.
“I was doing my family tree when I came across him,” explained Andrew, 51.
“I was looking through electoral registers and wrote letters and ended up finding his family.
“It turned out they had moved but my letter was forwarded and they got back to me.
“The only thing they had passed down was this photo album.”
Now Andrew, who works in an art gallery, is keen to track down the album and find out more about his grandfather.
“It was a very colourful part of London life he was involved with and I find it fascinating,” he said.
“The family knew nothing about this album or why they had it so when they got a good offer for it they sold it.”
The album was sold some time in 2005 or 2006 to a retired man who used to buy and sell postcards at Barnstaple Pannier Market, who then sold it on to another man.
“It’s become a bit of a quest,” said Andrew.
“He’s certainly a colourful and interesting character.”
