A BIDEFORD singer, with an enchanting and distinctive voice, is hoping to set up a record label to promote other local talents.
Danny Sumbler (pictured), who has been described by Nashville Producer Jack Hale as having "an incredible voice, one that struck me on first listen as unmistakable" and as "vocal magic" , is turning his talents to music production.
Danny's record label will be called Big Sir Records.
"I think it's something that will be good for the musical community in North Devon once it gets going," he said.
Having moved to North Devon three years ago to escape the city, Danny is now passionate about enabling local musical talent to be heard.
"Basically, I want to harvest some local talent, because it's very difficult for artists down in the West Country to get up to London to showcase their talent. It will be a nice thing to do, especially for people who write songs and who want to write songs for maybe established artists or publishers."
Danny is soon to release his new EP, King Of Laughter.
"It's a three to four track EP. You'll obviously have the title track King Of Laughter, a second one called Good Looking Boy and I'm not sure about the third one yet."
Among his musical inspirations are artists such as Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell. However, having written his first song at the young age of seven, singing and songwriting is something that feels like second nature.
"It's more a natural thing for me I think, there is some kind of well spring somewhere that it seems to come from."
Danny certainly has a captivating voice with an exceptional range. Notably some of his songs feature rather unusual themes, such as UFOs and time travelling, complementing the unique quality of his voice.
"They don't all cover that genre. Otherwise it would be quite tedious, get quite monotonous. I think there's certain things I've been endeared to since I was a kid. I always had a big fascination with, shall we say, the ethereal and the possibility of other-worldly existence."
His soulful voice, combined with the unusual subject matter of many of the songs, makes Danny's music an extraordinary listen. Unable to coin a phrase to describe his music, he leaves his audience to make their own mind up: " If you're sitting there enjoying the music and it's doing something for you, that's a much better reflection of what it is than me describing it."
