ANOTHER day brings yet another U-turn from our MP Nick Harvey.
In 2008 he signed a pledge to reduce student tuition fees, yet in 2010 he voted to increase tuition fees by 200 per cent.
In 2009 he voted for a mansion tax on properties worth over £2 million, yet last week he voted against the idea.
A mansion tax is a progressive way to help the poorest people in society survive the recession by asking the very richest people to pay a bit more.
The current council tax system is grossly unfair; it means that people, who are so poor that they have to go to food banks to feed their family, still have to come up with about £1,000 per year in council tax. Yet multi-millionaires living in mansions only have to pay £2,000 per year more. Surely the very richest in society can and should pay more.
Nick Harvey always votes the way the Tories vote.
This means that a Lib Dem vote in North Devon is a wasted vote. If you vote Tory you'll get a Tory, but if you vote Lib Dem you will also get a Tory.
Labour is the only progressive national party in North Devon.
PAM AND TOBY EBERT,
