SOUTH Devon's Jonathan Tiernan-Locke kept himself right in contention for Tour of Britain overall honours today.
The Endura Racing rider crossed today's finish line as part of a large breakaway group containing all the main race contenders.
Today's route from Carlisle to Blackpool provided Mark Cavendish with his second successive win.
Cavendish tore clear of the field in the closing metres on Blackpool prom.
He crossed the line just ahead of Australian Steele Vonhoff of the Garmin-Sharp team and yellow jersey wearer Leigh Howard of Orica-GreenEdge.
The victory puts Cavendish into the race leader's yellow jersey.
Tomorrow's hilly stage in Staffordshire is likely to see larger gaps developing and the ultimate shape of the race beginning to form.
