J AND S Ltd has been selected by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) to supply an integrated torpedo launcher system for the New Royal Thailand Navy Frigate.

The system will integrate with the ship's combat management system and gyrocompass. It is designed to fire a range of Mk 44 and Mk 46 torpedoes and can be modified to fire the latest RAk54 torpedo. Delivery will start in March 2016 and it will be trialled and tested in 2017.

Andy Toms, managing director of J and S, said: "J and S Ltd is delighted and proud to receive this major contract from DSME.

"We are looking overseas for growth opportunities and have identified East Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations region's great potential.

"This order is a welcome boost to our Barnstaple-based business and raises our profile internationally as an independent supplier of lightweight torpedo launchers. We have supplied and supported similar systems to the UK Royal Navy for many years and look forward to developing a strong business relationship with DSME and the Royal Thailand Navy."
