James Mayne, the Ilfracombe Town defender, looks set to be out for a month with an ankle injury.
Mayne landed awkwardly after an aerial challenge in the 3-1 defeat at Bristol Manor Farm on Saturday.
The loss of one of their most experienced players is a setback for Combe who had their defensive frailties exposed in a 5-0 defeat to Buckland Athletic last night.
Mayne had only recently returned to the side after missing the final two months of last season with a broken cheekbone.
"It's a big blow," said Ross Middleton, the player-manager."He's the talker back there. He's the one who organises.
"We have got a lot of experience missing at the moment."
The list of defenders unavailable for the Buckland game included Karl Baggaley, Kevin Darch, Gary Skinner, Josh Heafield and Lee-Roy Cochrane
Ilfracombe will hope to bounce back in the FA Cup on Saturday when they travel to St Austell in the extra preliminary round.
