An injured dog found on a railway line caused delays to several services on the Tarka line last week.

The dog was first spotted on the train track between Topsham and Digby and Sowton by crew on board an Exmouth to Barnstaple service on Thursday.

The train followed the dog for a stretch of the railway before stopping to let the driver and guard off to rescue it.

The animal was suffering from an injured leg and was brought aboard the train.

The incident caused a 31 minute delay to the service. It also caused delays to other services on the line between Exmouth and Barnstaple in both directions.

The First Great Western crew made arrangements with managers in Exeter to deal with dog and clean the train.
