HOLSWORTHY are looking for a new manager to run their Carlsberg South West Peninsula League team.

The Magpies have won just once in 13 matches in first division (west) this season and have failed to score on seven occasions.

That run of results has prompted the committee to seek a successor to Steve Lewis, who only took over as manager at short notice in the summer.

Barry Parrish, the chairman, said: "We had a meeting and told Steve Lewis we were not happy with the way things were going. He's worked his socks off to try and get players but he's finding it difficult.

"We have been as honest and up front as we can but we have got to push the club forward.

"We just want some form of stability at the club. We have had enough of being disappointed."

Lewis will remain in charge for the time being and would be happy to stay on the coaching staff under a new manager.

He stepped up from the reserves, with Gareth Martyn, to run the first team when Geoff Copp quit during pre-season.

"We are in bad need of a manager with contacts for players," said Parrish. "With the side we have got now, if we had four of five reasonable players we would have a half-decent team.

"We have a hell of a job getting local players. Boys here are just as happy playing for Shebbear or Bridgerule and I can't really understand that mentality."

On Saturday, Holsworthy were punished for their wastefulness in a 2-0 defeat to Vospers Oak Villa.

Applications for the role of first-team manager should be in by January 27 to club secretary Ivor Phillips, 8 Meadow View, Holsworthy, EX22 6JH. To find out more, call Barry Parrish on 01409 253006 or 07891 826009, or Ivor Phillips on 01409 253907.
