WHEN deciding whether or not to go to university, Jess Ling made the decision to pursue a career that she enjoyed.
She wanted to do something that helped people and now aged 23 has started La Perla Beauty as a holistic beautician. Jess is located within 1550 Hair and Beauty in Boutport Street, Barnstaple and offers a wide range of facials, massages, reflexology, henna body art and more.
"My ethos is to use natural products," said Jess. "I'm trying to create affordable health and beauty. People don't realise how much they benefit from a relaxing facial."
Jess's clients range in age from 11 to 87 and include men and women. She believes everyone can benefit from her holistic services and welcomes anyone who wants pampering or a relaxing treatment to soothe away stress.
Jess has obtained an ITEC qualification in massage and a City and Guilds qualification in beauty therapy as well as training in Ayurveda therapies at the Prana Academy in London.
"I have always been interested in helping people. I started doing facials because I liked seeing people relax. I like reflexology because it sends you into a deep relaxed state; it's like a body MoT.
"I get a lot from seeing how people progress through treatments."
Jess is also keen to show that young people can succeed in setting up their own businesses. As well as facials, hot stone massages, deep tissue/Swedish massages, stress relief head massages and reflexology, Jess also provides manicures and pedicures, waxing and tinting, makeovers and henna body art. Jess applies a natural herbal paste to create freehand henna designs.
At a recent Mind Body Spirit Festival she provided some 100 henna designs.
