INDEPENDENT research commissioned by Stay In Devon suggests holidaymakers have not been deterred from visiting the South West by recent bad weather. More than 75% said they had not been put off.
While images of the damage to the railway line at Dawlish and flooding in Somerset have featured repeatedly in national media, the Environment Agency said that only a small proportion of Somerset, some 2%, has been affected.
Matt Fletcher of Stay In Devon said: "The South West is such a beautiful area to visit, and it is great to see that so many people haven't been put off by the weather and will still be coming to enjoy a holiday in the region in 2014."
The poll found that more than three quarters of families are still expecting to enjoy their annual holiday in the South West, with the same result for couples. Also, dog owners have not been put off by the images of windswept beaches with around 80% hoping to enjoy visiting.
