HATHERLEIGH cattle market will be demolished to make way for more than 100 homes.
Proposals for the major transformation were unanimously approved by West Devon Borough Council plans committee members during yesterday’s meeting.
The council received outline plans for the redevelopment of Hatherleigh Market last year.
Now 106 houses, 11 of which will be affordable, will be built on the market. The scheme includes a new market area and facilities which means the market can continue running.
A market pavilion, a building to house the fur and feathers auction, a trading area for pitches as well as a car park will also be built.
Opportunities for new jobs will be available within the retail, office, café and restaurant spaces which will also be built.
Proposals for a medical centre and community building were removed from the original plans.
