NEW fisherman's stores approved for Ilfracombe could be given a wave-shaped roof pending an application amendment.
The 315 square metre building will be located in the Cove car park and will feature five individual stores as well as a ground floor cold store and five storage nets above.
It is to be finished with render elevations with a pitched roof, although amended plans are expected, possibly to allow for a wave-shaped roof.
As a result of the store being built, 26 car parking spaces will be lost.
A report prepared before the planning meeting stated: "In time of recession the loss can be accommodated, but future demand may return to that of several years ago, at which time the loss will be felt."
Planning officers said the store will provide additional security for the fishermen, support the fishing trade and address hazards on the site at the moment.
Paul Yabsley spoke in favour of the application.
He said: "This is important for the harbour, especially given the fatality we had down there a few years back, and I support the proposal."
Members unanimously voted in favour of the application.
