FIREFIGHTERS headed to Lidl in Barnstaple last night after reports of a fire in the store's trolley park.

One engine from Barnstaple Fire Station attended the fire, which was reported to the emergency services at around 10.30pm.

After arriving the firefighters found waste from a McDonalds happy meal had been set alight in the trolleys.

They extinguished the fire using a hose.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Although it was only a small fire there was a danger it could have spread, as the trolleys at Lidl are kept under the roof of the building."
