Firefighters were called to reports of a bus fire on the A361 North Devon Link Road this morning.

Fire crews from Barnstaple were called to reports of a bus on fire between the Landkey junction and the West Buckland junction at around 8.26am.

It is understood the bus was travelling towards South Molton.

An eyewitness said two buses were stopped on the carriageway, one of which was a National Express coach.

Hugh Griffith, Highway Operations Centre Manager for Devon County Council, said there were delays in the area.

Upon arrival, fire crews said they found no sign a fire had occurred and instead found a fuel spillage on the road.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said they believed the bus may have been experiencing problems but had managed to move on without help from fire crews.

Firefighters dealt with the fuel spillage before returning to the station.
