Crime across North Devon has fallen dramatically year on year, police have said.
Total crimes reported in North and West Devon fell by 6.5 per cent or 8,576 crimes compared to last year.
In the North Devon sector, which covers Ilfracombe, Lynton and Lynmouth, Braunton and South Molton, reported crimes fell by 10.5 per cent or 1,734 crimes compared to last year.
North Devon Sector Inspector Roger Bartlett said he was encouraged by the figures.
He said: "We recognise that not all crimes are reported to the police but to see this a downward trend in a time of recession is good news.
"However we will not be complacent, we want to see these figures go down even further."

Or could it be because people don't bother reporting crimes so much because they have lost faith in the police ?
