A popular family-run hotel in Northam has officially closed after going into administration this week.

The Riversford Hotel and Riversview Restaurant, situated in Limers Lane, was forced to shut down on Monday.

Manager Nigel Jarrad, who has run the hotel with his brother for the last 20 years, confirmed the hotel was “officially closed for good”.

He said: “I’m currently winding the business up and sorting out all the reservations we had for Christmas and the New Year.

“It’s very sad.”

He blamed rising costs and bills as the reason for the hotel’s demise.

The Victorian hotel, which has been run by the Jarrad family since 1971, is expected to go on the market very soon.

It boasts fifteen en-suite rooms and four poster bedrooms, many of which have views of the River Torridge.

What a shame. I really used to enjoy lunches there. Sign of the times I suppose.
