GYMNASTICS

GIRLS from Falcons Gymnastics Academy attended the Girls' Devon Novice Championships in Plymouth.

Two of the gymnasts – Lauren Puig and Freya Newton – won the overall gold medal in their age groups.

First in action were Zoe Bell and Sophie Perkins in the over-13 category and Jessica Matthews and Brooke Phillips in the under-12s.

Zoe took the overall silver medal, with Sophie close behind to win bronze.

Jessica and Brooke were well placed in 10th and 12th respectively.

Falcons girls went one step further in the middle session with Lauren (under-13s) and Freya (under-9s) taking gold.

Also in the under-9s, Tace Dunford won silver, Jasmine Kentell was sixth, Caris Evans ninth, Kitty Sampson 12th and Jessica Goodfellow 13th.

The afternoon session saw Erin Stickley finish third in the under-11s, with Tara Davies sixth, Emily Blundell seventh, Kirsty Kingdom 10th and Rebecca Light 15th.

In the under-10 group for gymnasts using double bars, Asha Cartmell took seventh spot and Harriet Blackmore 10th.

Of the gymnasts using a single bar, Amber Neale was second, Bethany Smith third and Emily Meardon seventh.

Coaching director Mike Beagley said: "It was a great day for the novice-level gymnasts.

"Their hard work with the coaches is really paying off, with Falcons ranking high in every level of competition."
