MORE than a dozen jobs are set to be created in South Molton thanks to plans to expand recycling operations in the town.
Organised by SWM Recycling, the project is set to include the development of a new picking line at the South Molton Metals site on the Pathfields Business Park.
The development will form a part of SWM's zero waste scheme, which aims to ensure everything collected by the company is recycled.
The plans were revealed by Jeremy Holtom, land agent for South Molton, at a town council meeting last week.
He told councillors more details on the development would be given once survey work had been conducted at the location.
Martin Mogford, operations director at SWM, confirmed the scheme was set to create up to 14 jobs.
He said: "We are looking at ways to expand waste transfer and that will involve creating some extra space.
"A lot of the waste that comes in needs to be separated and sorted so a new facility is needed.
"The jobs will be made over a period of time but we have already created two new employment opportunities. In the long run we will see new operators and machine drivers employed. There's a number of opportunities we are looking at. Hopefully that will lead to even more new contracts in the future."
