THE Exmoor Pony Festival invites everyone to celebrate Exmoor's unique free-roaming moorland pony herds and the people who take care of them.
The Exmoor Pony is a rare breed renowned for its intelligence and an ability to withstand harsh upland conditions, the closest link to the original wild ponies of Europe.
Jason Ball, from the Heart Of Exmoor scheme, said: "Exmoor ponies are part of the moorland's cultural and natural heritage on Exmoor National Park. The moorland environment is vital for maintaining the breed's hardiness, cleverness and natural instinct for survival."
Activities this weekend include a pony training workshop and a fun day that includes a pony obstacle course and pony races. The festival runs until Sunday, September 1. Details: 01398 323841 or visit http://exmoor ponyfestival.org.uk.
