She didn't get hired as Sir Alan Sugar's apprentice — but now Bideford-born Katie Hopkins has applied for a new role as a Member of the European Parliament.

Katie, who got to the final three in BBC1's The Apprentice in 2007, is a candidate in the June 4 Euro elections.

She is the sole candidate for the "Katie Olivia Hopkins Independent" party.

Ms Hopkins became a media favourite during her time on the Apprentice and went on to briefly appear in I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

The former global brand consultant went to school at Stella Maris, now Kingsley School in Bideford, and North Devon College.

She was fired from her high profile job at the Met Office in Exeter following her shock exit from the Apprentice.

Two other European election candidates from North Devon are former Barnstaple teacher Ricky Knight, who is the Green Party's lead candidate, and Humphrey Temperley, who is one of the Liberal Democrat candidates.

Well she didn't get very many votes so we will never know if she is any good will we? The usual Liberal and conservatives regained their seats - yawn - more of the same but then the voters, the few that actually bothered got their choice so don't complain

Maybe she's a really nice person @ heart? After all we've only seen her public side through the media and you know how distorting that can be?! No? You mean you think that someone who presented themselves in that way might be missing a few connections in their understanding of the way other people see them...? Mmm... Sounds fairly typical of modern career politicians... Do we want another of them....? I shall watch the results with interest will we display judgement or will dear Katie have the last laugh?

She proved to be useless at doing any task on the apprentice but good at blaming other people and blowing her own trumpet

The formal parties have proved their inability to control themselves, let alone a Europe. The answer could be to vote for an independent candidate.

She impressed on The Apprentice and comes across as forceful and direct. A natural leader. She will do well in politics. She gets my vote.

Ok I may have been away from the UK for a few years but have still kept up to date with what's going on. I had never ever heard of this hideous creature before! Is that she scares men into relationships? She has a face like an old pushed in shoe and I can only assume she is desperately trying to raise some cash for some much-needed plastic surgery. Please love, do yourself a favour and just stay home. You are an offence to my refined sense of beauty and dignity.

Oh dear - not too many friendly comments so far. I wonder: does anyone know what Katie would like to do for NDevon or the UK if she was elected MEP? The current issue of Private Eye indicates that MEP attendance and efficacy is a bit on the lame side, at times. Would Katie be able to do better? In many ways, I think she would. Cleaning up Europe has been beyond Messers M'Lord Mandelson and Kinnock, so maybe now is time for someone really direct. Could be fun to watch? Maybe she could be given a try? She could also get some practise in being Lumley-esque, and then come back and have a little look at what's going on in the local area. She could certainly take on the badly-needed reform of the iPCC, for example.

Is there nothing this woman won't do for publicity? What a joke! I wish she would just accept that the public have rejected her and get on with her life, quietly!
