Entries for North Devon Hospice’s first ever open water swimming event are flooding in.
The Barnstaple River Swim on October 27 offers people aged 13 or over the chance of a one mile or half mile swim along the river Taw.
Sharon Dinnage was one of the first to sign up for the event.
Sharon, who will be swimming the half- mile route with her sister Helen, said: “Open water swimming is so popular these days, but because of our strong coastal tides it’s not all that easy, which is why I signed up for the Barnstaple River Swim.
“It will be great to take part with lots of other swimmers and be able to see supporters just yards away on the river bank.
“But most of all I’m proud to be doing it because it raises money for North Devon Hospice.
“It is a charity that has touched so many lives, almost everyone in this area will know someone who has been supported by them.”
Gerard Fawcitt, from North Devon Hospice’s fundraising team, said: “We have a limit to the number of swimmers we can take, so please visit the website and sign up today.
“Every pound raised will help us provide essential services to local patients and families, so your support is absolutely vital.”
