Election: Liberal Democrat wins seat on Barnstaple Town Council

One election candidate in North Devon already has reason to celebrate this morning.

Hazel Phillips stood for the Liberal Democrats in an election for a seat on Barnstaple Town Council.

She was elected with 543 votes, beating Green Party candidate Rosie Haworth-Booth into second place with 255 votes. Trailing in third was the Communist Party candidate Gerrard Anthony Sables who polled 68 votes.

The town council vacamcy for the Yeo Valley ward arose following the resignation of Councillor Christine Brennan.

There were 43 spoilt papers and a turnout of 26.54%.
