An elderly woman was temporarily stuck in her car after she hit a wall at Orchard Gate in Dolton near Winkleigh this afternoon.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the crash around midday today.

Police said the woman, who was driving a Landrover Discovery 4x4, had hit a wall and damaged the car door locks leaving her temporarily trapped.

However, on arrival the woman had freed herself from the car.  The woman did not sustain any injuries.

In the same way that young motorcyclists are banned from driving motorbikes over a certain cubic capacity, older drivers should be banned from driving cars over a certain size. They don't see/notice half of what they should, and the idea of an elderly, half-blind and half-deaf driver with reaction times half as slow as younger drivers, driving such a large and lethal car frightens me.
