A NORTH Devon town could be transformed now Torridge District Council has given the green light for three wharves to be turned into a multi-million pound development.

The derelict East-the-Water wharves in Bideford, which are owned by Torridge, have been earmarked for development for decades.

But on Monday the council revealed the site will be developed by Oceanside Developments, run by North Devon businessman Simon Maunder.

The area is likely to consist of apartments, restaurants, shops and a public open space for events.

The council has been trying to secure a developer for the site since 2010 but until now has been unable to reveal any information due to commercial sensitivity.
