THE driver who smashed into parked cars on a busy Braunton road and fled the scene has come forward.
Victims of the "hit and run" , Nick Lloyd, 37, Vicky Rafferty, 23, and her fiancé Shane Slocombe, 22, parked their cars in Chaloners Road in the village before heading to work on Saturday, January 5.
A 58-year-old man from West Sussex came forward in connection with the crash.
The man has not been interviewed yet.
PC Rod Lomas from Barnstaple's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "A man made contact with us to say he had been involved with the collision. We are in the process of arranging for him to be interviewed."
Nick lives in Barnstaple with his partner of 14 years Krista Laird. He has been manager of J's Skate Shop in Braunton for eight years.
Nick's black Ford Focus Ghia was badly damaged in the collusion. He previously told the Journal he was shocked something like this could happen in Braunton.
Nick said not having a car for a month has been a nightmare. He said: "I have been using a taxi to get to and from work. I never thought the person who did this would be found. Krista and I are both chuffed, this has been such an upset."
Krista said: "I had faith in the police finding them. However, I am pleased the person has actually admitted what he had done and came forward himself.
"When the police called Nick to tell him the culprit had come forward we were both so relieved.
"I was shocked to think someone could hit two cars and drive away and not accept responsibility. Obviously it played on their conscience, as it should, and they came forward.
"We have had so much support from friends, family, colleagues and strangers. It is very much appreciated."
Vicky and Shane own Egoboost hair salon in the village. Their black Mazda RX8 was hit with such force the car came away from the pavement.
Vicky said: "We found out from the police who hit our car. They rang us with his name, number plate and insurance details.
"We are pleased that the police had found the man that did this to our car, as the accident was five weeks ago now.
"We have been getting into work via Shane's mum and using a taxi as well."
