NORTH Devon Council is investigating a group of travellers who have established a new encampment on land in Barnstaple that had previously been locked to the public.
The group, consisting of ten caravans and 15 cars, were reported to have arrived at the Seven Brethren site on the grounds of Tarka Tennis Centre just after midday today.
It comes just one month after the same group were moved from the site. Following the incident locked gates were placed at the entrance to the centre’s playing fields.
However, five caravans are currently situated on the grounds, after entering through the previously locked gateway.
The remaining caravans are currently stationed in a number of public car parks surrounding the centre.
A North Devon Council representative, who was at the scene, confirmed they were working to resolve the situation.
The police have said they were unaware of any criminal damage or forced entry into the site but were monitoring the situation.
