I WAS honoured to meet Daisy last week. Daisy is a horse from Hatherleigh who has achieved great things.

At the Kent County Show she was pulled forward out of 15 contenders and has qualified for the Horse of the Year Show.

For owner Emma Edwards-Brady it was the culmination of a dream and means that Runnon Daisy May, to give her full name, will be on her way to the National Exhibition Centre on October 6.

"I couldn't quite believe it when Daisy's name and number were called out. It took a while to sink in," said Emma.

Emma and her mother Sue, who really only breed and show horses as a hobby, had been in the final 30 times with seven different horses in the past three years, but this was to be their day – and Daisy's.

"She went like a dream," Emma said proudly.

Daisy is the seventh generation from a Welsh cross pony bought for £12 in the late 1940s by Sue's father for her to show and hunt.

I was so grateful that Sue and Emma took time out from running their busy farm shop to introduce me to Daisy, putting her sash on and posing for a photo. I'm sure everyone in the town will be rooting for this very special horse from Hatherleigh in October.
