Jo Pavey’s return to marathon running ended in despair yesterday when she failed to complete the Yokohama marathon in Japan.
The Exeter Harriers athlete wrote on Twitter: “Really disappointed.
Had sore throat since Thursday night. Running can be so frustrating. Could not finish. Feel mortified.
In nearly 30 years of racing, that’s only the second time I’ve stopped in a race.”
It was her third attempt at a marathon, after previous finishes in London and New York.
Kenya’s Lydia Cheromei, 35, was the winner with a time of 7 hours 23 minutes 7 seconds.
