A teacher is to face a jury trial accused of raping a teenaged girl while he was working at a school in Devon.
Music teacher Paul Smith, 39, did not enter a plea when he appeared before Exeter Crown Court but the judge was told the case is to be contested.
Smith, of Bourne Avenue, Southgate, London, is accused of two counts of rape and three of sexual activity with a person under 18 while in abuse of a position of trust.
All the allegations relate to a time when he was working at a secondary school in Devon.
Judge Erik Salomonsen set a timetable for the exchange of prosecution and defence papers and ordered that a plea should be taken at the next hearing on November 22.
He set a date for a three day trial at Exeter Crown Court in April next year and released Smith on bail.
