The sentence of a Barnstaple man accused of having a knife has been delayed to give social workers more time to find him somewhere to live.
Kyle Saville, 21, had only been out of prison for a few months when he was arrested after returning to North Devon from the hostel where he had been living in Oxford.
He has previously been jailed for four years for throwing a man off Ilfracombe pier and causing him serious injuries, Exeter Crown Court was told.
Saville, formerly of Albert Lane, Barnstaple and now in custody, admitted having a bladed article, criminal damage and theft.
His case was adjourned by Judge Erik Salomonsen to allow a place to come available at a hostel in Old Windsor.
The adjournment will also give time for the parole board to decide whether he is eligible for release after being recalled to jail to serve the second half of the four year sentence passed in 2011 for causing grievous bodily harm.
The judge told him that he may not be released, even if a place is found for him at the hostel.
