NEWLY-promoted Bideford made a disappointing debut in Tribute South West One West, losing 37-5 at Bridgwater and Albion.
Already missing five first-teamers, Bideford lost three more players to injury during this afternoon’s match, which was the club's first at this level.
After conceding a try to Bridgwater in the opening few minutes, Bideford hit back with a score from Richard Norman.
From then on it was one-way traffic on the scoreboard.
Bideford’s cause was not helped by injuries to Simon Bright (foot), James Buckland (eye) and Adam Crouch (head).
St Austell, who went up with Bideford as Western Counties West champions, began the season with a defeat to North Petherton. The Cornish side visit King George’s Field for Bideford’s first home game next Saturday.
Bude kicked off in Western Counties West with a 50-12 home defeat to Burnham-on-Sea.
South Molton beat New Cross 23-17 in the RFU National Junior Vase, while Torrington lost 41-6 at Totnes.
