DANIEL WESTON has been selected for Great Britain in preparation for next year's Special Olympics European Summer Games in Belgium, writes Rob Leslie.
The 21-year-old from Barnstaple has been called up after increasing his training and winning two silver medals at the Special Olympics National Games in Manchester this year.
Daniel, a member of North Devon Wheelers-Southfork, is autistic and a student at the Foxes Academy in Minehead.
He said: "It is too early to determine the events in which I will compete at Antwerp but I have recently invested in a turbo trainer and increased the intensity levels of my standard training routine."
The road races in Belgium are to be held over a 40km course, but the 30km time trial may be more suited to Daniel's strengths.
Patrick Weston, his father, said: "We will know more about Daniel's targets after the first training weekend with five team-mates at the end of November in Runcorn.
"Daniel has been assisted by the Wheelers for seven years and the European selection marks a fantastic step up in his sport. Foxes Academy has also been extremely supportive of his sporting ambitions."
The Games, for people with learning difficulties, will be held in September 2014. Daniel also hopes to compete at the World Games in Los Angeles in 2015.
