Craig Overton was selected for Somerset's opening LV= County Championship match yesterday.
The 20-year-old pace bowler from Northam took one wicket as Yorkshire had the better of the first day at Taunton, closing on 342 for five.
Overton dismissed opener Adam Lyth for 85, caught superbly by a diving Lewis Gregory at mid-wicket, and finished with figures of 18-3-61-1.
A fifth-wicket partnership of 115 between Gary Ballance (77) and Adil Rashid (84no) swung the momentum Yorkshire's way.
Craig Meschede was Somerset's best bowler with three for 82.
Dave Nosworthy, the Somerset director of cricket, told the club website: "It was a tough day at the office for the boys and they toiled hard.
"We had a few chances and didn't take them and they were chances at the most crucial parts of the day."
Jamie Overton, still making his way back to full fitness after a knee problem, was selected as 12th man.
North Devon's Barney Huxtable was bowled by Peter Trego for eight as Devon lost by eight wickets to the Somerset second XI at Heathcoat yesterday.
Devon were dismissed for 97 and Somerset reached their target with more than 23 overs to spare.
Barnstaple and Pilton bowler Jack Popham had Tom Abell caught by Matt Golding for 25.
