ORIENTAL restaurants are a key component missing from Ilfracombe's gastronomic scene, a councillor claims.
Philip Webb said he was "disappointed" the town didn't have a South East Asian eatery in which to dine.
And he wants to draw one in as part of a wider campaign to promote Ilfracombe as a centre for arts and eating out.
A sub-group of the town's marketing committee has been set up to work on the campaign which, it is hoped, will be in place from early 2014.
Councillor Webb said he hoped Ilfracombe could start to compete with the arts scene in St Ives, Cornwall, once the campaign was running.
"Those people still might drive down to St Ives, but they may well stop here on the way," he said. "The sub-group will report back at the next marketing group meeting in six weeks' time so we can start planning for next season."
