LOVELY lobsters and incredible crabs will be celebrated in Clovelly this Sunday. The coastal village is famous for catching crustaceans in a sustainable way and the Clovelly Lobster and Crab Feast promises to be a good old fashioned celebration of this wonderful tradition.
Folk music will flood through the cobbled street with music from Nick Wyke and Becki Driscoll, The Vagrant Ramblers and fabulously funny a cappella trio 3's Company.
There will be plenty of tasty food to try too. Chef Sanjay Kumar will be giving cookery demonstrations and tastings and there will be local food stalls and beer tasting.
Children will be kept entertained by street theatre, walkabout magic and themed craft activities from North Devon AONB.
The North Devon Biosphere team will be joining Devon and Severn IFCA (Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority) offering a hands-on experience with Clovelly lobsters. There will also be a chance for visitors to enter a B10 prize draw which offers plenty of prizes to be won.
The event will raise funds for the National Lobster Hatchery in Padstow, who will be exhibiting some of their baby lobsters prior to their release into Clovelly Bay at the end of the day. Local fishermen often take pregnant female lobsters to the hatchery so they can be raised in captivity without predators. When the young lobsters reach a good size they can be released back into the sea to look after themselves.
Clovelly Lobster and Crab Feast is on Sunday, September 1, 10am to 5pm.
Admission: £6.50 (adult), £4 (child 7 to 16), £17 (family). Free entry for under 7s. Details: 01237 431781 or visit www.clov elly.co.uk.
B10 is a celebration of the tenth anniversary of the designation of North Devon's UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The B10 Prize Draw can also be entered online at www.north devonb10.org.uk.
