CELEBRITY guest Clare Balding has joined a group of Exmoor walkers for a ramble around the national park.
Mrs Balding and her producer met 13 members of the North Devon Silver Skiers at Exford this week to record an episode of Radio 4 show Ramblings.
The show, which will be broadcast on September 19, sees Mrs Balding interview the group as they walk from Exford along the River Exe to Lyncombe and back again.
And Jan Szymankiewicz, a member of the group, said having the presenter join in with the group’s regular walk was a pleasure.
The group, which is made up of a group of retirees who enjoy walking, meet regularly and try to walk together somewhere on Exmoor at least once a week.
Jan, a founder member of the group, along with his wife Mary, said the BBC had called him to organise the walk out of the blue.
“We got a call months ago,” he said, “and it was a surprise.”
He also said the walk went “very well”.
“It was unusual because we’ve never done anything like it before,” he said, “but it was interesting.”
“Clare wanted to know how we got together as a group and was particularly interested in how we got into walking.
“During the walk Clare spoke with most of us individually for five to ten minutes in a very relaxed way.”
Jan also said Clare, who won plaudits for her presenting style during the Olympics last year, was easy to talk to.
“She really puts you at ease,” he said.
“It’s not like an interview, more of a conversation.”
