A CHILD has been left needing plastic surgery to his face after he was assaulted following a Facebook dispute.
A 14-year-old appeared in front of North Devon magistrates accused of assault by beating on September 6.
Ben Winzer, for the prosecution, told the court the two boys had been involved in an online dispute which led to physical violence when the 14-year-old threw his 13-year-old victim against a car, headbutted, kneed and punched him.
The boy suffered a cut to his left cheek, a black right eye and a swollen right cheek which developed into a depression which now requires surgery.
The 14-year-old committed a further offence on October 1 when he destroyed a thermometer and a door handle to the value of £60 belonging to the YEO Centre in Barnstaple.
He pleaded guilty to both the charge of assault by beating and criminal damage to property.
He was given a nine month referral order for both offences, to run concurrently, in addition to £120 costs and a victim surcharge of £15.
